Hard to believe fall is here!
I wanted to share with you the crazy, magical summer that I’ve had, and tell you what is happening in the coming months. I’m writing to you from the LA, as we enter the final week of a marathon trans-continental 6-weel bus tour with Deep Purple and Jefferson Starship. We started on August 4th in Raleigh, NC, zig-zagged into Memphis and down to Ft. Lauderdale, then up the coast to Jones Beach in Long Island, Massachusetts, Halifax, NS, then across Canada, dipping into Indianapolis, Chicago, and Detroit, all the way West to Vancouver, hitting most of the major NHL arenas. We are now heading down the California coast, hitting Sand Diego on Tuesday, then ending in Vegas and Reno before flying home on the 13th. In the end, we will have covered 12,000 miles and performed for around 150,000 people! It’s been an incredible journey! The camaraderie we have shared with Jefferson Starship, who we toured with last year, is enduring. And we have also gotten to know the wonderful legendary members of Deep Purple, most of whom are in their 80’s and continue to melt faces every night with their performance. Upcoming Stratospheerius Fall Dates
Folks, don’t think for a minute that I forgot about my other band, Stratospheerius. As busy as may Kansas touring schedule is, I still make time to play my original music with my Stratos brothers. So far, we have two shows in Maryland booked with We Came from Space, and a show in Kennet Square, PA with Jane Getter Premonition. We are working on adding more shows, so stay tuned…

When I’m not on the road, I’m busy writing and recording projects for-hire. Here are two of the latest that I’m really proud of:
One of the top modern progressive rock bands out there. Comprised of current and former members of one of my other favorite bands, Spock’s Beard. I’m such a fanboy and was stoked when they asked me to play violin on three tracks for their new album, Grimmalkin. Check it out!
Lisa LaRue is a progressive rock keyboardist and composer based out of Topeka, KS, whose music combines prog with her Cherokee roots. The new project, Quivira, recorded with her husband, guitarist/;producer/vocalist John Baker, features my violin playing on the song “Nothing is Everything.” The album also has vocals by Jake Livgren and guitar playing by Evan Stanley (Son of Paul Stanley from KISS). The new album is being released by may old label, Melodic Revolution Records.

Sitting in with Deep Purple!
A few days ago I was standing next to Don Airey at catering. I told him what a blast it’s been touring with Deep Purple and that I was gonna try to catch another one of their sets because they added one of my favorite songs, “Perfect Strangers.”
He says, “Why don’t you play it with us?”..I thought he was kidding.
The next day, I get an email from Don with a handwritten violin part. This was real. I had a few hrs to learn the song.
Don and I ran it at soundcheck, and he seemed happy. Last night I got to play “Perfect Stranges” on stage with freaking Deep Purple! To say it was a surreal experience I’ll never forget would be the understatement of the year.
Thank you to Don, Ian Pace, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, and Simon McBride for the opportunity, and big thanks to my Kansas bandmates for hanging out and cheering me on from the side of the stage. I’m still flying high from the experience. Grateful and humbled.
